| MC501. "On top of the world" near the summit of the Montagne de Lure. It is about 50 miles north of Marseille and not quite in the Alps, a high "foothill". | ![]() |

MC502. Col de St. Raphaël, 876m above Pujet-Théniers in the lower Alps of the far south , NW of Nice. |
| MC503. Near the summit of the Col de Vars, 2109m. This is a high route in the southern French Alps but not at all easy as the route is steeper than many in the area. We move to the northern French Alps here. | ![]() |

MC504. On the Colle del Nivolet. This high and spectacular route gets up to 2612m. It is in Italy close to the French border a few miles east of Val d'Isère (but not sensibly connected by bike!). Only the south side is surfaced. Plans to tarmac the north side have long been abandoned - it has 5 miles of rough and quite hard going with a bike above the village of Pont. |
| MC505. Near the summit of the Grosse Scheidegg in central Switzerland SE of Interlaken. Most of this route is surfaced and the top area is barred to most motor vehicles. The route has superb views. | ![]() |

MC506. Near the summit of the Furkapass in central Switzerland, looking across to the Grimselpass. (We have a view in the opposite direction on our "All Alps" page - see link at end to allow you to come along the Alps again) The area is very spectacular but busy with tourist traffic. |
| MC507. San Bernardino pass in SE Switzerland. This reaches 2065m on a busy route, but with the top section bypassed with a motorway tunnel. | ![]() |

MC508. The first of three pictures of the south side of the Timmelsjoch pass, 2509m. A route not to be missed, taking you from Austria into the Dolomites. Reports in recent years on a cycling prohibition on the Italian side no longer now apply. |
| MC509. The Timmelsjoch south (Italian) side again. | ![]() |

MC510. On the north (Austrian) side of the Timmelsjoch pass. This method of drying hay is distinctive in this part of Austria. |
| MC511. On the Passo di Sella, 2237m. This is one of 4 passes on the famous circuit of the Sella Massif in the Dolomites. | ![]() |

MC512. On the Passo di Gardena, 2121m, another of the passes on the "Sella Ring". |
| MC513. On the Passo di Falzarego, 2105m. Another pass in the Dolomites, a little to the west of Cortina. For more pictures, going further east, see the OCD Cycloclimbing extended page with Austrian and Slovenian Alps. | ![]() |
